About The Software Times
We write the software reviews we wish existed when we were trying to choose between tools ourselves.
Our mission
The Software Times is an independent publication that reviews AI tools, productivity software, and fintech apps for the people who actually use them. The internet is full of generic "top 10" listicles written by people who never opened the products they're reviewing. We do it differently.
Every tool we cover, we use. Every comparison we publish is based on real testing — not press releases, not affiliate marketing scripts, not vendor briefings. If a product doesn't deliver on its promises, we say so. If a cheaper alternative is better than the expensive option everyone recommends, we say that too.
What we cover
- AI tools and software — writing assistants, image generators, coding tools, research tools, and the constantly growing pile of new launches.
- Productivity software — note-taking apps, project management tools, automation platforms, and anything that helps people get more done with less friction.
- Fintech and banking apps — budgeting tools, international money transfer services, robo-advisors, and the apps reshaping how people manage money.
- How-to guides — step-by-step walkthroughs for getting the most out of the tools we cover.
Our editorial standards
A few principles guide every article we publish:
- We test everything we review. If we haven't used a product for at least a few hours of real work, we don't write about it as if we have.
- We disclose financial relationships. Some of our articles contain affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you sign up through them. This never changes our editorial opinion. We recommend tools because we think they're good, not because they pay us.
- We update articles when things change. Software changes fast. Pricing changes, features get added, and once-great products get worse. We revisit and update older reviews to keep them accurate.
- We accept corrections. If we get something wrong, tell us — we'll fix it and credit the correction.
Who runs The Software Times
The Software Times is run by a small editorial team with backgrounds in technology and finance. We've spent years working with the kinds of tools we now write about, which is the only honest qualification for reviewing them.
